Meat Chowder

I thought I would share an awesome meat chowder we sometimes make. If you enjoy hearty meals and want to get really cozy during the winter, check this bad boy out!

(NOTE: You can use any kind of meat combo you like. This one just happens to be the best.)

I’m Tie-rific

My boy’s preschool likes to do an event called Donuts for Dad. It’s mostly due to Father’s Day not falling during the school year.

We get to see what they do in class and receive an update on what they’re learning (with the option to enjoy some coffee and donuts).

Not What I Wanted

It happened again tonight. Family cartoon viewing, and there I go. Falling asleep. Ugh, this is not what I wanted when I grew up.

Blade Runner 2049

Are we just 30 years away from blasters, flying cars, or lifelike, truly interactive virtual assistants? I don’t know…perhaps not. I do know, however, that Blade Runner 2049 is one hell of a movie, and I can’t wait to digest my 4K copy of the film in all of its glory.

IMAX at Udvar-Hazy

Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. Not the best movie. Perhaps, in my top 5 of movie experiences though.

I found this movie ticket in a box the other day and boy did it bring back memories.

Back in 2009, my wife and I attended a showing of Transformers 2 in the Airbus IMAX Theater at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The Udvar-Hazy Center is part of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum near Washington-Dulles Airport. They have some awesome aircraft here:

There’s one thing that makes Saturday morning breakfast the best for my children, and it is….waffles.

Jimu

My wife and I try each Christmas to get our kids something unique. This past year my oldest daughter received a Jimu Robot kit. It reminded me of a more advanced K’Nex or Construx kit from my childhood.

The Jimu kits work like this:

  1. Build your robot
  2. Program actions
  3. Code sequences

Cloonan: “Storytelling Above All”

I was going through old draft posts, and came across this bit I wanted to remember from an Off Panel podcast interview between David Harper and artist Becky Cloonan. These are three different inspiring quotes about art and story:

36.5.28: You Are Software

A company is like software. It has to be usable, it has to be useful. And it probably has bugs, places where the company crashes because of bad organizational design or cultural oversights.

When you start to think of your company as a product, all sorts of new possibilities for improvement emerge. When you realize the way you work is malleable, you can start molding something new and something better.

The Emotion in a Score

There were multiple times during Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse that two of my kids didn’t want to watch the screen. The first of which was the first fight with the Green Goblin.

Part of why they wanted to turn away was the visuals but id say a majority had to do with the score by Daniel Pemberton. It’s what sucks you in, enraptures you to the point where you can’t turn away since you are so engrossed in what may happen.

If the above score interests you at all, imagine following it up immediately with this one:

Riding the Bus on 66

I’m experimenting with a new means of travel to my work. It’s (duh Duh DUH!) the bus.

A new route opened about 10 minutes away from me and drops off a couple blocks from my workplace. I’d be a fool not to try it out (right?), especially since it’s free for the first two months.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Soundtrack

Now that Spider-verse is released, the soundtrack is finally available. I’ve been wanting to jam to this music for a week. My son has as well.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

This. Movie. Is. Dope.

There was an advanced screening of Spider-Verse last week, and man oh man has it been tough not being able to share our enjoyment of the film with anyone purely based off the fact they had not experienced it yet.

Inktober 2018

31 days, 31 drawings.

It may seem crazy, but another Inktober is under a month away!

Ermagur!!! I believe that 2018 will be the best year yet.

For those of you participating in this year’s challenge, and if you are looking for some inspiration, please take a look at my Inktober: Astronaut Edition book. It’s filled with some of my best work ever and a little of my thought process behind each drawing. Take a look:

RIP to the King of the Sweaties

On July 19, 2018 a huge influence in my creative life passed away. His name was Jon Schnepp.

I was blessed for the past 4+ years to watch Jon week in and week out share his love and passion for all things comics, sci-fi, horror and genre on the AMC & Collider YouTube channels. He was a big man with a big personality and an even bigger love for fandom.
