My wife and I try each Christmas to get our kids something unique. This past year my oldest daughter received a Jimu Robot kit. It reminded me of a more advanced K’Nex or Construx kit from my childhood.

The Jimu kits work like this:

  1. Build your robot
  2. Program actions
  3. Code sequences

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

So you get this kit containing various types of parts from connectors to servos. Then you load up their app for step-by-step instructions which put IKEA assembly guides to shame. Here is an example:

We are yet to build the other Builder bot, but I look forward to spending that time with my daughter.

She was amazed by how she created this little robot she could control from a tablet. And then she could also program sequences for the little bot as well.

Thanks Jimu! And now some videos:
