Comic Review: Batman #33

It’s the Zero Year finale and it packs a wallop. I really enjoy how Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo use the subtleties of story and imagery to plant clues into what is going to happen.

I’ve mentioned before the love I have for The Riddler. He is a villain that attacks Batman’s mind above anything else. I think he was a fitting choice for Snyder’s journey through Bruce Wayne’s first time on the job. He’s made the Batman push himself mentally throughout the entire Zero Year story arc.

Now we come to the final game. 12 riddles for the future of Gotham. Lucius Fox is hurt and still needs to block the signal to the Riddler’s weather balloons. Planes are coming with missiles loaded and Jim Gordon is trying to alert them to stop their raid.

Remember I mentioned clues in the art and story? Pay close attention to the robot screens. See if you figure it out.

I had to look up the cameo at the end of the issue. I’m not as comic knowledgeable of Bruce Wayne’s history.

I’m anxious to see what comes next for the Caped Crusader. I know #34 deals with a story related to The Eternal Series. We’ll just have to see.
